This is an artful, practical pasta drying rack with a contemporary, elegant design. It is a perfect gift for the pasta maker who appreciates working with and looking at beautiful things in life. The racks shown in the pictures are made of ambrosia maple with purpleheart or zebrawood inlays but other wood options are available for the inlays.
Professionals use a chef’s knife to transfer fettuccine or linguine from the pasta making device (kitchenaid or manual, hand cranked versions) to a drying rack. The chef’s knife not only provides the user a nice and sturdy handle but it also simplifies the transfer by providing plenty of separation between the noodles hanging on either side of the knife. The arrangement and extra wide spacing between the pins on this rack make it super easy to move the chef’s knife around the pins during the transfer.
The rack can easily accommodate pasta made from 6 cups of flour, which is plenty to feed a large dinner party. The pasta in the pictures was made from 2 cups of flour and half of the pins are empty. Our standard recipe is 3 large eggs for 2 cups of flour and 1 teaspoon of salt, nothing else. A few drops of water may help bring the dough together.
The pins easily come off for compact storage. They can be easily attached to the body with two elastic bands before it is put away. Because the whole rack is just a block and four pins there is no need for a box or carrying case. The rack can be assembled in a few seconds by passing the four pins through the holes on the maple block. Many prefer to display the rack in the kitchen area permanently as a beautiful handcrafted modern object and conversation piece.
The rack is finished with permanent, durable and food safe polyurethane. The pins are finished with mineral oil and beeswax designed to maintain wooden cutting boards.
The racks are made to order and it takes only a week to produce and ship one. Currently, I have walnut (dark brown), bloodwood (deep red) and zebrawood dark yellow / brown pattern (see the pictures) in stock for the inlays between the two ambrosia maple faces. All three match ambrosia maple beautifully.
